Mobile Hygiene

What is a mobile dental hygiene clinic?
It is a fully equipped dental hygiene treatment room built inside a van. We drive to your location and you receive your cleaning on board, just like you would in a dental office.
Do I need a referral from a dentist?
No. In Ontario, Registered Dental Hygienists can provide cleanings and preventive care without a referral. We review your health history before every visit, and if anything in your history means a dentist or physician should be consulted first, we will let you know.
I already have a dentist. Can I still see you?
Absolutely. Many of our patients keep their regular dentist for checkups and treatment, and use Lotus for convenient cleanings in between. With your permission, we are happy to share your records with your dentist.
Do you take x-rays or fix cavities?
No. We focus on cleanings and preventive care. Dental hygienists do not diagnose or treat cavities, so if we notice anything that needs attention, we will refer you to a dentist.
How long does an appointment take?
Most cleanings take about 45 to 60 minutes. Your first visit may be a little longer while we get to know your health history.

Booking and Visits

Where do you park?
We need a flat space about the size of two regular parking spaces, on a driveway, parking lot or legal street spot. The van has its own power and water.
Can you see my whole family in one visit?
Yes. We can book family members back to back so everyone is done in a single stop.
Do you visit retirement homes, workplaces and schools?
Yes. We set up recurring clinic days for residences, long term care homes, offices, schools and community groups. Contact us and we will build a schedule that works for your group.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Mississauga, Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. If you are just outside our usual area, reach out anyway. We may be able to add you to a nearby route.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, since the van travels to see you.

Insurance and Payment

Will my insurance cover my visit?
Most dental benefit plans cover cleanings by a Registered Dental Hygienist. We provide a detailed receipt with standard procedure codes so you can submit a claim, and we can direct bill many plans.
Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
Please ask us when you book. We will confirm current coverage and any costs before your appointment.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept debit, credit card and e-transfer.

Safety

How do you keep the van clean and safe?
We follow Ontario infection prevention and control standards for dental hygiene practice. Surfaces are disinfected between every patient, single use items are used wherever possible, and instruments are sterilized in an autoclave on board.
Is it safe for seniors and people with medical conditions?
Yes. We review your medical history and medications before every visit and adjust care as needed. Caregivers are welcome to attend the appointment.
What age do you start seeing children?
We see children once they have teeth and are comfortable sitting in the chair, often starting around age 3. Fluoride and sealants are great ways to protect young smiles.
